Dear John and Thomas

Dear John and Thomas,
I think I need to key you both in on today's views on religion. The United States was founded upon Protestant values, but now, it has become very controversial because of the separation of church and state.
The values of our society and the way we interact with each other has changed over the years due to political revolution and popular media as well as cultural integration. For instance, today we can make the choice to choose life as well as the recent unionization of homosexuals. In the 1960s and 1970s, they had race riots which also played into a lot of religious views. Many religions that now practice in the United States started out as very ethnically concentrated, but over time have become more widespread. For example, a large majority of Baptists are African American, Buddhists were primarily an Asian religion but can now be practiced by many, and Catholicism is primarily white with some hispanic influence.
During the time of your political figure history, the belief in sanctity of life was prevalent. Now, the United States handles many situations of such things as violence, death sentences, abortion and suicide bombers. What would you think is coming of our country when we look at life as something that we think we have the power to play the role of God for other peoples' lives as well as our own?
Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen
