So you wanna Dance HUH??!!

Since this class began, we have been discussing the life styles of the Puritans. It’s interesting that we are in the Mardi Gras season as we discussed this. I think that Mardi Gras is almost a total opposite of what the Puritans believed. They came here to make the world better for when Christ comes back. They saw that eating well, drinking well, and even sexual pleasure as being worldly and against the Puritan way of life. Now we all know that Mardi Gras is full of drinking, eating and sexual indulgences. This is a time for people to enjoy all the pleasures that the season has to offer. One can do whatever the flesh desires, in some cases without feeling guilty about it. During this season the praising of the Greek gods is called for, but the Puritans would be against this act. They did not tolerate giving once self to anyone else other than the God they believed in. They were so deep in their faith that they punished those who were not, they even punished themselves. Although during Mardi Gras sinful acts are often accepted this time of year. The Puritans were not total stiffs seeing as they enjoyed their time spent with the Lord and took pleasure in knowing that they were doing what God has expected of them. In this sense, I guess one could say that the Puritans and Mardi Gras celebrators know how to have a good time in different ways.
